Cyclist runs red light at pedestrian crossing, gives motorist the finger after being honked at in Tanglin

A cyclist was caught on camera running a red light at a pedestrian crossing when people were using it outside the Grace Assembly of God church at Tanglin Road on the evening of May 3.

The cyclist then gave a motorist the finger after getting honked at near the junction of Tanglin Road and Alexander Road.

A video of the incidents was shared online by SG Road Vigilante and Roads.sg.

Incident

Cyclists did not stop for crossing pedestrians and flips the finger when honked at. Happened at Tanglin Road outside Esso petrol station on 3 May at 1837hrs. All cyclists must - wear a helmet when cycling on roads - always ride as close as practicable to the far left edge of roads, and allow traffic to overtake you safely. - obey all traffic signals and travel in the same direction as the flow of traffic

One netizen wanted to know what happened before the cyclist was honked, commenting: "Show the full video? Not that flipping the bird is any better than honking, but it was obviously in response to something else that transpired after the pedestrian crossing."

While some netizens referred to the cyclist as a woman, others thought the cyclist was a man. Someone commented: "I can't tell if that is a man or woman, or both, or neither."

The cyclist had long hair and was wearing a white cap, a light blue tank top and dark blue shorts.

According to the Land Transport Authority, cyclists must:

  • Obey all traffic signals and travel in the same direction as the flow of traffic
  • Wear a helmet when cycling on roads
  • Always ride as close as practicable to the far left edge of roads, and allow traffic to overtake you safely
