Woman, 23, arrested after extorting $8,450 from man who procured escort services from her

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of extortion.

The police said in a statement that they received a report on the case from a male victim on April 11 at about 3.50pm.

He had procured escort services from an unknown woman.

She had allegedly told the man she would report him to the police if he failed to give her money. He then transferred her $8,450 over seven bank transfers out of fear.

The police identified the woman and arrested her on April 15.

She will be charged in court on April 17 with the offence of extortion.

The offence carries a jail term of between two and seven years and caning.
