Stomper ABC was looking at otters at a lake in the Mandai area yesterday evening (Apr 16) when he spotted what appeared to be a decomposing carcass of a Sambar deer.

In the photo the Stomper contributed, the white carcass of the deer can be seen floating in the water.

According to the Stomper, the lake is located near Bath Road.

Said the Stomper:

“I saw a floating piece of ‘log’ but upon closer inspection, it looked like the carcass of a dead deer.

"We couldn't tell if there was a smell coming from the body because of the rain. Maybe it masked the smell."

According to The Straits Times via a blog about Singapore's biodiversity, zoologists estimated there were fewer than 20 Sambar deer in Singapore in 2010.

Despite their rarity, a Stomper was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of a herd of deer and their fawn along Mandai Road last year
