Man injured after glass door suddenly shatters at newly-opened National Gallery Singapore

Visitors were shocked after the glass door at National Gallery Singapore (NGS) suddenly shattered yesterday, Dec 1.

Stomper Joshua saw the glass door at the newly-opened gallery shatter for no apparent reason.

According to him, a passer-by was injured as he happened to be walking by. The Stomper shared a video showing the staff sweeping up the shattered pieces.

In a Facebook post, NGS confirmed that the glass door at level 5 shattered at about 4.50pm.

It wrote:

"A visitor sustained minor abrasion on his right hand following the shattering of a glass door and was immediately given first aid by the Gallery’s staff. The affected area will be cordoned off for repair works until further notice.

"Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. Please be assured that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure the safety of our visitors.

"We will conduct thorough safety assessments again after repair works have been completed."

According to AsiaOne, the $532 million National Gallery Singapore, housed in the buildings of Singapore's former Supreme Court and City Hall, opened its doors to the public one week ago on Nov 24.

It has received an overwhelming response from the public so far, with over 4,000 people visiting the museum on its first day alone.
