A driver in his 60s was arrested after he crashed a lorry crane into the roof of a sheltered walkway that linked Blocks 116 and 118 at Bukit Batok Avenue West Avenue 6 today (June 17), said a police spokesman said in response to media queries.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it dispatched a fire engine and an ambulance to the scene, but its assistance was not required.

No injuries were reported, a spokesman added.

Original article:
Stompers Anonymous, Chris, Alan, Jason, Din, Andy and Westcoaster saw a lorry crane crash into and topple the roof of a sheltered walkway at Bukit Batok West Avenue 6, Block 118 carpark at around 9.30am today (June 17).

The Stompers sent in photos of the incident, which show that the shelter's roof had crushed at least one car that was parked nearby.

Most of the Stompers said that the lorry's crane arm had knocked down the shelter's roof, sending it crashing onto the road.

The force of the crash uprooted the pillars of the roof from the ground, damaging the concrete path of the walkway.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel were also seen at the scene, along with personnel in construction uniforms.

Stomper Andy said:

"The car seems to be damaged really badly but it seems like nobody was inside.

"Not sure if anyone was crossing when the shelter collapsed.

"Personally, I feel that there's a need for the responsible parties to have a look into this matter and make sure that this does not happen again.

"It is lucky that nobody is in the car, and I am unsure if anyone was injured.

"But what if there were children crossing or even a family in the black car when the shelter collapsed?

"I would never have imagined that such an accident would occur in Singapore which has strict regulations.

"This is totally not safe at all."
