16 arrested in island-wide TP enforcement operations against drink-driving

Traffic Police (TP) conducted an island-wide anti-drink drive operation in the early hours of Thursday (Dec 3) where 16 persons were arrested for drink-driving.

According to a post on the Singapore Police Force Facebook page, drink drivers, upon conviction, will not be allowed drive for at least 12 months, depending on their Breath Evidential Analyzer (BEA) test results.

Moreover, their driving licenses will be revoked, and they will have to retake and pass the theory and practical driving tests to restore their licenses.

First-time offenders can be fined between $1,000 to $5,000, while repeat offenders may receive penalties of a fine up to $30,000 and a mandatory jail term of maximum three years.

They may also be caned up to six times should their drink-driving cause serious injury or death.

In its post, SPF reminded the public that drink driving is considered a very serious offence and the offender will face the full consequence of the law.

Traffic Police emphasized that the public should be responsible road-users during this festive season, so as to build a better road culture to keep our roads safe.
