'Next time paint your house': Man arrested after debtor's note found outside Sembawang Drive flat

A 56-year-old man was arrested for loanshark harassment after a debtor’s note was left at the main gate of a Sembawang Drive flat.

The note said: "Owe $ pay $. This time I wait. Warning next time paint your house."

The police were alerted to the case on 23 April.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on May 6 at Lorong Chuan.

The debtor’s notes were seized as case exhibits.

A note with a Sengkang East Drive address said: "Owe $ pay $. This is last warning. Come out settle. Next time paint your house."

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is allegedly involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The man will be charged in court on May 8 under the Moneylenders Act.

For first time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
