A diner was so disgusted upon discovering an insect in his meal that he left without eating.

Stomper Ignatius said the incident occurred at Kaffe & Toast, located at Block 4 of Singapore General Hospital, on April 17, at around 2.15pm.

He recounted: "I decided to have my lunch at the hospital after my medical appointment.

"I ordered wanton noodles but did not ask for this creepy crawly condiment with my wantons. It looked like a cockroach or a mosquito

"It's disgusting to say the least as this happened in a hospital and I have feedbacked to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA)."

Ignatius said he did not consume his meal, adding: "I felt disgusted and nauseated, so I left the place immediately."

In response to a Stomp query, SFA said it is looking into the matter.

"Food safety is a joint responsibility," reminded SFA, adding: "While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices."

Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.

Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via its online feedback form.

SFA said it takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and "will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained".
