Man whom Stomper saw slamming cat on ground and burning it at Tampines charged in court

A 25-year-old Singaporean man, Fajar Ashraf Bin Fajar Ali, was charged in court today (Dec 14) for two counts of animal cruelty.

The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) said in a statement:

"On 26 May 2016, AVA was alerted to a case of alleged cat cruelty in which a man was seen slamming a cat onto the floor at Block 884 Tampines Street 83.

"AVA officers commenced investigation immediately and the cat carcass was collected for post mortem examination.

"Subsequently, the identity of the suspect was established with the assistance of the Police and the suspect was arrested on 31 May 2016."

In an earlier report, Stomper Jaslynn and her mother had witnessed a man slamming the grey Siamese feline onto the ground on May 26.

She added, "I suspect he threw the cat down from high level first, and then slammed it on the ground twice to make sure it was dead. He even took a lighter out to burn it to 'check' that it was dead."

Jaslynn and her mother also heard shrieks. When they approached, "he quickly walked away and pretended like nothing had happened."

Under the Animals and Birds Act, anyone found guilty of animal cruelty can be fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed up to 18 months, or both for the first offence. For second and subsequent offences, the maximum penalty is $30,000 or a jail term of up to 3 years, or both.
