Container vehicle in Mandai found to have 6.3 tonnes of illegally imported Thai meat products

Polymath Wholesales Trading sole proprietor Benjamin Lim Guozhi was fined $8,000 by the court on May 6 for the illegal import of meat products from Thailand.

This comes after officers from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) conducted a check on a refrigerated container vehicle along Mandai Link Road in May 2023.

They found about 6.3 tonnes of meat products imported by Polymath Wholesales Trading without a valid import permit. The products were seized by SFA.

Food can only be imported to Singapore by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied with a valid import permit.

In addition, meat and its products can only be imported from accredited sources in approved countries that comply with our food safety standards and requirements.

Illegally imported food products of unknown sources can pose a food safety risk.

Offenders who import meat products illegally from unapproved sources without a valid permit shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.

In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both.
