I am in Secondary School now, and I really like this Chinese pop singer. His posters are pasted all over my room walls and I buy all his CDs and other things from him. My parents are really unhappy as I spend a lot of money and time on him, especially when he comes down here for concerts. But he's my idol and I really want to support him. I have heard of stories where people go overboard with their obsession with idols but I believe that I am not that obsessed. How to I get my parents to understand this?
- May Lyn
Dear May Lyn,
While you may not feel that you are indulging in your idol, seems like your parents are frowning at the resources that you are spending on your Chinese pop idol.
How do they react to your idolising? Have they ever mentioned that your interest in your idol has affected you in a displeasing manner?
Parents are concerned that when their child is overly-obsessed with their idol, they may give up their studies, spend all their allowance and savings on the idol and lose all sensibility to follow him in his career.
Listen to their concerns. What are they concerned over? Try addressing those concerns. Once they are confident that you are not negatively influenced by your idol, I'm sure they will have little ground to frown on your idol interest.
I can't help being a player. How?
I'm very lost. I like this girl who attends the same lecture as me. We often bump into each other. But we do not talk to each other as we are not officially "befriended''.
Most of the time, we will just exchange short glances and walk off. On the other hand, there's this girl whom somehow I've become very close with recently.
The worse of all, I like this other girl, too. I might sound like a player, but I just can't help it.
Please tell me what should I do.. Should I approach the lecture girl, or just leave it as it is?

Dear Confused guy,
Seems like you’re in the mood for love.
For the first lady, it’s probably physical attraction more than anything else, while you probably have a stronger friendship base with the second girl whom you’ve mentioned is closer to you.
Wouldn’t you want to fall for someone whom you can relate to rather than someone whom you are attracted to only superficially?
But nothing’s stopping you from speaking to the lecture girl if the opportunity arises. But let nature take it’s course.
