STOMPers were there first!

Iris Tan sent us a picture of the scaffolding collapse at the Harbourfront Vivocity construction site on Aug 24 evening. Azmi and his friends were passing by the site and promptly sent us the two inset pictures.

Part of the scaffolding had crumbled and fallen down. An SCDF spokesperson said that three men had suffered minor injuries and were conveyed to the hospital.

Mr Shannon Yu sent us this picture of a cat stuck in a tree outside the Dairy Farm estate, where he works at. Mr Daud, the estate's landscape supervisor tried to coax it down.

According to Mr Yu, it 'took him about two hours, a bag of food, a seven-metre tall ladder, and the rest of his landscaping crew' to get the cat down.

Jonathan Lim was paying his bills at an AXS station in Basement 2 of Plaza Singapura yesterday (Aug 23) when he heard a loud crash at about 8.15pm. Almost immediately, he saw beads of glass rain down on the escalator leading up to Basement 1.

Another eye-witness, Mdm Audrey Lim, said, “There was a young man on the escalator at the time and he quickly ran down to safety.” Mdm Lim suspects the man was injured, judging from the tiny spots of blood found on the floor later.

CapitaLand spokesperson Ms Tong Ka-Pin confirmed today (Aug 24) that a tempered-glass railing panel on the first storey of Plaza Singapura had shattered and injured a shopper who was making his way down from Basement 1 to Basement 2. The shopper, sustained cuts on his body and arms and was warded for observation at SGH last night. He was discharged this morning.

The affected area in the mall , including the escalator, is still hoarded up for further checks.

Ms Tong added, “Our consultants had conducted a thorough round of checks on all the other glass panels at the mall this morning and have confirmed that they are in good condition. As a precautionary measure, we are also exploring the installation of a laminate film over the glass panel, which will act as a protective layer to keep shattered glass intact."

A TAXI driver was apparently so drunk, he fell asleep at the wheel — even after he had hit a parked van while trying to park his cab in Kallang Bahru yesterday (Aug 22) morning.

The impact of the crash dented the back of the white van and pushed it halfway out of its lot outside Block 66. And still he snoozed on.

Ms Shirley Moh, 25, took a photo of him from her flat and sent it via MMS to us. Passers-by also could not rouse the man from his slumber, she said. It was only an hour later, at about 7am, that he was shaken awake by the long arm of the law.

He argued with the police for 15 minutes before he was arrested.

'Chewing Gum' emailed this picture of a bag left unattended along Orchard Road, just outside Orchard MRT station on 23 August. When he returned 20 minutes later, he found that the bag was still there and nothing had been done.
He says 'This could easily have been a planted bomb by a terrorist right in the heart of the shopping district. Many walked past without batting an eyelid. We still live in complacency.' A subsequent call made to the police five hours later confirmed that no calls were made reporting this.

June Tan warns parents to be wary of leaving their children unattended in the presence of stray animals. Her three-year-old daughter received more than 10 stitches after being scratched by a stray cat on Monday (Aug 21) evening. This incident occurred just outside their ground floor residence at Yishun Avenue 6, where stray cats have been known to loiter.

Seah Cheng Hwee has worked in the Tanjong Pagar area for years but did not notice this tree until he saw a Malay man hanging a water bottle on it last Friday (Aug 18). It is located near the zebra crossing at the junction of Keppel Road and Anson Road, right in front of Tanjong Pagar Complex.

The IT executive is intrigued not only by the water bottles hung on it but also the ‘prayer cane’ and some candles found on the tree. He wonders if some people think the tree has special powers. He has seen odd-job labourers gathering under the tree for card games and wonders if they have anything to do with the bottles.

Mike Muk, 41, shared his 20-year-old fingernail collection with us. The RSAF personnel also told us how the collection started and why some of the nails are stained red ...

"It started when I just joined the RSAF and was staying in-camp alone. There was no dustbin in the bunk. So I cut my nails into a TicTac box.
I decided to see how long I could hold on to this collection. After a few months I would transfer them into a slightly bigger bottle. Whenever I travel overseas I'll keep my nails and will top up the main bottle on my return.
The red-stained nails are actually my wife's contributions. But she doesn't contribute very often. Most of the time she just throws hers away unless I catch her cutting her nails.
A few years ago I transferred them into this present 250ml 'Birds' nest drink' bottle.
Time flies - it has been 20 years now.
This is my trusty old nail cutter and a common temporary storage (film bottle on right). It's a pretty weird collection. Right?"

What do you think of Mike's collection? Tell us in Talkback »

Ivan Chong was taken aback by this bold hawker who chose to set up a stall selling roasted chestnuts here, ignoring the prominent ‘No Hawking’ sign at the Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange Friday (Aug 18) afternoon.

Alvin Ng took these pictures on Sunday with his phone showing the Alexandra Park Connector and Canal. He couldn't get over how dirty the canal was. "The amount of garbage is shocking and it's very sad." What's behind this? "I do not know if its because of the backflow caused by high tide that makes the problem worse but the short of it is that there is a lot of garbage in the canal."

45-year-old computer technician, Mark Wong, did a double- take when he saw this car along Ubi Road. The car belongs to a pest control company and has a cockroach painted on it. Mark didn't mince his words when he emailed us this picture: " I think it is disgusting. I wonder if the driver's girlfriend or wife would want to sit in such a car."
Would you take a ride in this car? Tell us in Talkback.

This car was parked this way on Katong Road for "a good 10 minutes while the driver went to buy food", according to "Chewing Gum", who sent us this picture via email Aug 16 as an example of "blatant disregard for other road users".

Lisa Chua took this picture of some Peicai Secondary School students smoking in public after school hours.
She wrote, "In the photo, the boy is wearing shorts and has a cigarette in his right hand, next to bench seat."
According to Lisa, a concerned parent, the boys unleashed a barrage of Hokkien swear words at her when they saw her taking a photo of them. This picture was emailed to us Aug 17.
