28-year-old Leong Mon Wai, a post-grad student, sent us these pictures of some vehicles that were crushed after a tree fell on them in the wee hours of Friday morning (4 Aug). The tree that's taller than the 15-storey high Block 43 at Telok Blangah Rise was part of the dense growth alongside the HDB carpark. Mon Wai said that most residents only knew of the incident when the loud buzz of chainsaws were heard at 5.30am! Workers had been despatched to clear up the debris which had hit 4 vehicles.

This picture was taken sometime after the clean-up. Some of the branches had already been hauled away, but from is still evident, the branches were rather thick.

This picture shows half of the tree that's still standing. Mon Wai wanted us to see just how big the tree was - ''taller than my 15-storey block of flats,'' he says.

Gerald Yeap sent us this MMS of a potted plant which fell onto a car parked below Block 387 in Tampines St 32, smashing the windscreen. No one was in the car when it happened at 9.25 pm today (Aug 3). Police have classified it as a case of rash act and have not identified any suspects.

39-year-old Ms Cheng Puay Hool was at the Chinese Garden MRT station in Jurong on her way to work this morning (4 Aug) when she was tickled by this sight - a young lady whose shoe had flown onto the tracks as she was swinging her leg to and fro. An MRT officer came to the rescue and, using a pole with a hook, fished out the flyaway shoe. All this done before the next train arrived!

Alvin sent us this picture of a human jam at the only covered walkway which links Gate C and the canteen at Qihua Primary School. The picture was taken on Aug 1 at 1pm.

According to him, the walkway is about 3m wide and about 30m long and gets very crowded when parents squeeze in on rainy days to wait for their children. Alvin wonders how the children are going to make their way through this human crush.

This convenience store in the Mobil station along Jalan Bukit Merah saw an unusual customer come through its door at 1.15 pm today (Aug 2).

The driver, in his twenties, crashed his silver Mitsubishi after topping up at the station.

Passerby Joshua Khoo, who sent us these pictures via MMS, said he saw the driver's father arriving at the station in a taxi to meet his son.

"The driver looked pretty shaken up," Mr Khoo said.

No one was injured. Police are still investigating the accident.

Loansharks in Singapore are moving beyond walls and doors to get their messages across. This is another loanshark message spray-painted on the ground at Ang Mo Kio in this picture sent by George Lim. George wonders if this is a sign of the ah longs "thinking out of the box".

Inset is a picture sent in just last week by a STOMP user who only wanted to be known as Mr Ng.

Blinds for more comfortable rides
Jamie Chew sent us this picture of trains in Osaka, Japan, from her recent trip there. The cabins came equipped with blinds to block out sunlight.

Jamie felt that this was a brilliant idea to make our MRT rides more comfortable, especially in the afternoons when commuters would otherwise avoid seats in the sun.

Alan sent us this MMS of an elderly man sweeping the ledge outside the parapet on Sunday (Jul 31) at Mei Ling Street. He is concerned about the old man's safety.

Joseph Chu, 40, was on his way to the Woodlands Regional Library when the blaring of horns caught his attention. A car had been parked at the bus stop in the picture, causing the bus driver to be unable to move his vehicle for a good fifteen minutes.

The driver had gone to the shopping mall nearby and had left his car there. Upon his return, the bus driver had scolded him for his thoughtless act.

Allan Lim sent us this picture of a banner outside Gek Poh Ville Community Club. Residents around the area are wondering why the banners are stating 'Singapore 21' when it is Singapore's 41st National Day this year.

The Management Committee of the Community Club has clarified that '21' refers to the 21st century, and they have been using these banners during the National Day period since last year.
