A factory manufacturing and storing offerings such as incense and joss sticks in Loyang Way caught fire on 15 July at around 12.30 am. Mr Wellington Lee, who happened to be in the area, took photographs of the scene and sent them to STOMP, for 'the public to be reminded of Fire hazards!'

Mr Michael Lee saw that this disused airconditioner rusting badly and in danger of falling off as the bracket is badly corroded as well. The owner, who lives in Blk 3, Normanton Park had been told several times to have it removed but to no avail. Mr Lee is afraid that if the airconditioner falls, it will hit and kill someone.

Mr Tay Kuo Min was travelling along Commonwealth Road when he was greeted by the sight of severe flooding this morning, at 9.30 am. It was so bad that there was only a single passable lane on the right.

The plants are in the way!

So says Shirley Sam, a 43-year-old housewife, who lives in Lompang Road in the Bukit Panjang area. Shirley has noticed the cat-and-mouse game residents play with the authorities - the shrubs are ripped out not long after they're planted.

It's the third time in two years, says Shirley.

The reason for this: Residents want a proper path there as it's easier to cross the road. Shirley says the traffic junction is about 100 metres away.

WHERE'S THE STING?

Mr Kenneth Poh noticed this beehive near the School of Computer Engineering in NTU this morning (July 13). By the late afternoon, more bees were swarming around the hive.

The 28-year-old IT worker said it could pose a danger. "The freshman orientation is going on right now, and there is a graduation ceremony too."

HERE'S THE PROOF, BOSS

It was a mad dash to the office for several commuters on SBS service number 151 this morning (13 July).

At 8.20am their bus got stuck at a roundabout at Upper Aljunied Lane. STOMP recieved several alerts and we're putting this mms up so that your bosses will believe your story when you arrive late.

We checked and all was cleared by 10am.

Rei Leong, 19, was walking past the North Bridge Road entrance of the Bugis Junction carpark when he heard a loud bang. Looking into the entrance, he saw that a black car had crashed into the right-side wall of the carpark.

The right side of the car was "badly compressed, and one tyre is badly damaged," he said. The male driver, who was the car's only occupant, looked unharmed, according to Mr Leong.

Mr Melvin Lim came across this car in SAFRA Tampines and noticed that the owner had plastered his and his partner's name, nationality and blood group on the rear door window.

This is a standard feature for cars taking part in the World Rally Championships. It expedites the blood transfusion for the driver or the passenger should they be involved in an accident.

However, it is not clear if Mr Terence Lai and Ms Elyn Tan have indeed participated in or will be joining a car rally. Apparently, some do it as an added safety measure.

"What is it with parents these days?" wrote an irate John Spencer Tan. The rain had prompted the parents to drop their kids off either inside the school or at the residential carpark, where there are sheltered walkways leading to the school, clogging up Marine Crescent in the process. "A few drops of water won't kill their precious babies," Mr Tan commented.

In the same breath, Mr Tan also praised prefects from CHIJ Katong Convent who sheltered younger children without umbrellas to the neighbouring primary school.

Are Singaporean kids generally overprotected? When does kindness cross over to become overprotection?

Army Bomb Disposal Unit at work - This video came from Sim Khoon Chuan.

On 11 July, several Toa Payoh residents alerted STOMP of unusual activity at Lorong 8.

Delivery man, Tan Choon Teck, 49, SMSed the first message at 6pm saying that there was a 'bomb' at the construction site near Block 226. IT personnel, Sim Khoon Chuan, 37, sent us an MMS showing Police and Army officers hard at work.

The Police had cordoned off a carpark that was being upgraded as Army personnel worked to remove a 'live' World War II relic that had been found by the contractor working on the site.

All worked into the night, and the relic was detonated at 10.45am on 12 July. Tenants of the surrounding industrial estate were told to stay indoors.

Normal construction work has resumed.

First there was the abandoned motorcycle spotted in Bukit Batok East, then STOMPers starting spotting other abandoned bikes.

Frankie Seah sent us an mms of a bike tied to a tree at Toh Guan Road East. He wants the authorities to ''get someone to relieve the tree of its suffering.''

The unused trishaw at the foot of Block 6 at Jalan Batu was spotted by Florence Lee. It's been there for more 6 years, she says, and no one's been seen near it at all.

Pasir Ris resident Abdul Islam came across this “creative” parking reservation — consisting of dustbins and red-and-white plastic tape — in a multi-storey carpark in Pasir Ris Drive 3.

“Why deprive everyone staying nearby of these two lower-floor lots?” the 36-year-old technician asked. “Residents who drive bigger vehicles had a hard time turning the corner because of the dustbins,’’ he added.

A check with the Housing and Development Board (HDB) revealed an unexpected culprit. The area was “temporarily cordoned off by the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council,” said the HDB in response to queries by The Straits Times. The barricade was erected in preparation for the “clearance of a choke in the pipes” next to the lots. It has since been removed.

The HDB cautions that reserving a lot for personal use is an offence that carries a fine of up to $400.

“The least they could do was inform us by putting up a sign,” said Mr Islam when he was told later. “At least that’s better than using dustbins.”

We got this mms today, July 10, of a flash mob gathering that took place on July 9, 2pm, City Hall MRT.

About 30 people had turned up wearing brown to show their support for mr brown.

The sender, who did not want to be named, focused on a T-shirt with the words, "I am fed up with progress."

It was in reference to mr brown's article, ''S'poreans are fed, up with progress!'' which had drawn a sharp rebuke from the government and had seen the Today newspaper suspend his weekly column.

Mr HM Chan, 26, was on his way to the beach on 9 July when he took this picture of a hornet's nest at Block 31 Marine Crescent. He says it is 'a sting just waiting to happen'.

He replied to our emails later, saying that the nest had been removed.

This MMS came in from Serene Ng, 40, today (July 9) at 3.30pm. It shows open air carpark lots which never fail to flood on days of heavy rain at the Heartland Mall. She advises car owners to avoid these lots on rainy days.

Chen Zhenzhi, 28, sent us pictures of this smoking truck along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on the morning of Sunday, July 9. Other readers have also sent us SMS and MMS tip-offs of the same incident - thank you for your contributions!

This container truck overturned at the bend exiting from the newly extended Telok Blangah Viaduct, towards Harbour Drive (just outside PT 11) at about 12.30pm today on July 8.

Elvin Neo, 27, was driving about 50m behind the trailer when he heard screeching brakes before the giant fell on its sides. He and two other drivers pulled over to help control the traffic and make emergency calls to SCDF.

Ben Lee, 39, witnessed this accident from his 17th floor residence on Friday night (July 7) at about 10.30pm. The accident occurred at the junction of Sin Ming Avenue and Bright Hill Drive outside Ai Tong Primary School.

Loh Kwang Yan, 36, also witnessed this accident and sent this SMS news tip to us at 10.31pm on July 7: "there was an accident at ai tong school junction between a merc and bmw n both car went up in smoke." He added that there was a strong smell of burning tyres in the area.

Inset are two closer looks at the badly damaged vehicles from Fok Weng Wai, 45, who took the pictures with his mobile phone. Thank you for your contributions!

38-year-old manager, Yong Soong Ooi sent us this mms news tip.

A long-time regular to Bishan Junction 8, he was taken aback when he headed for the shopping centre's carpark at lunchtime, Friday, July 7. Red and Green lights were dotted through car park, indicating which lots were taken, and which were available.

Soong Ooi loves the idea.

''Saves me having to go round and round in search of a lot'', he says. High on his wishlist...other carparks taking up this petrol-saving idea!
