Borrowing audio-visual items

Does 'for reference only' audio/video materials in NLB mean that I can only watch/listen to the AV material in the library? How does this apply to DVDs especially?

Yes, "For Reference Only" audio-visual (AV) items are not for lending and only for use within the library's premises. For libraries with such reference materials, viewing or listening stations are available for access to these items.

Should you have further questions on the usage of the library's reference AV items, do feel free to approach the Customer Service Counter at the library concerned. Our friendly Customer Service officers will be best placed to assist you.

If you intend to check the availability of any title before visiting our public libraries, you may do so via the online catalogue at: http://catalogue.nlb.gov.sg

The point about point blocks

HDB Point Blocks are usually 25 storeys high. Block 22 Holland Drive has an additional storey making it a 26-storey point block. What is the history behind this mystery?

Building heights must comply with the plot ratio and height control of residential developments stipulated in the Development Guide Plans (DGP). DGPs show the detailed land uses of each local area. Areas with special height controls are depicted on the plan. All building heights are subject to technical height controls.

In April 2000, URA revised the height control for flat and condominium developments. URA explained in the news release dated Aprill 2000 that by increasing the height of buildings, architects would have more flexibility and be innovative in design of buildings, maximise use of ground space for better landscaping and communal recreational facilities.

We are not able to obtain information on the DGP plan for Holland Road area . The block you mentioned was completed in 1975, and as construction of buildings is subject to compliance of criterias set by URA, the number of storeys of Block 22 Holland Drive must have been within the maximum height allowed. We have also forwarded the enquiry to the Housing and Development Board with regards to the above-mentioned block . Will update your side once we receive the response from HDB.
